How does Hyaluronidase work?

Hyaluronic acid is naturally occurring in the body, adding plumpness to the skin and lubricating joints, eyes and other areas. Hyaluronic acid fillers like Restylane®, Belotero® and Juvederm® are injected under the skin, then the acid slowly breaks down over several months or longer. If you have lip filler that is too full (duck lips) or looks lumpy or uneven, it can take quite some time for the filler to dissolve on its own. To resolve poor results faster, you can choose to undergo hyaluronidase filler dissolving injection treatment.

What is Hyaluronidase?

Hyaluronidase is an enzyme that can dissolve hyaluronic acid faster when the results from cosmetic procedures are undesirable. Just like filler injections, hyaluronidase injections only take a few minutes to perform, and they begin working immediately. Depending on the area treated, the hyaluronidase can deflate volume in as little as one treatment. Smaller areas of hyaluronic acid filler treatments like in the lips can quickly be dissolved, while larger areas like cheeks may require more than one treatment.

The number of hyaluronidase injections needed to dissolve hyaluronic acid filler depends on the type and amount of filler used. These injections require precise placement to achieve the desired outcome.
