Sculptra® is different from typical facial fillers that add substances like synthetic hyaluronic acid to replace volume from lost collagen in the skin. Instead, Sculptra® injections trigger natural collagen production to create firmer, volumized skin. The main ingredient in Sculptra® is poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), which is a medical grade polymer, a substance that has been used in medical products for many decades. When injected deep into the skin, the PLLA in Sculptra® stimulates collagen production in the skin and fat pads of the face. This creates firmer skin and a more youthful appearance.
Sculptra® injections do not create instant volume like hyaluronic acid facial fillers. PLLA triggers collagen production that will appear in the weeks after each treatment.
